The story of Garcia Yachts’ Exploration sailboats is at the combination of three stories. That of the Garcia brothers, founders of the shipyard; that of Jimmy Cornell, experienced navigator and “father of blue water cruising”; and that of the Grand Large Yachting Group and Berret Racoupeau Yacht Design, who have been designing remarkable sailing yachts together since early 2000. From their encounter were born the most successful exploration sailboats imaginable today.
First and foremost, it is the story of a family saga initiated by the Garcia brothers in 1974. The sailboats were then called Passoa, Maracuja or Iemanja. Garcia Yachts has taken great care to preserve the DNA and qualities that have made them famous all over the world, to create their heirs. Aluminium centreboarders, with impeccable seaworthiness, allowing you to sail everywhere, in all weathers, in complete serenity. Flawless reliability, always perfectly adapted to the program.
Meeting Jimmy Cornell, the authority on long-distance cruising, was then decisive. Indeed, his project for a new boat for the Northwest Passage, the ultimate maritime challenge after four round the world voyages, has proved to be perfectly harmonious with the evolution sought by Grand Large Yachting for the emblematic Garcia brand. The detailed specifications and characteristics that Jimmy Cornell expected from a boat for such a trip, based on his unparalleled experience, only needed to be translated into plans and to be accomplished with excellence.
The talent of Berret Racoupeau Yacht Design, the design team and the Garcia production teams has given life to this line of exceptional yachts that will take you where you want to go. Also won-over was the famous British sailor Pete Goss, who best summarizes, with a big smile, the limitless program of the range of boats in general, and his Exploration 45 in particular: take a world map, turn it around, and place your finger randomly on any point on the surface of the seas or oceans and…” There is nowhere you can’t go!”.
The first boat of the Exploration range, the 45 takes up the challenge of offering in a contained size, all the characteristics expected by its inspirer Jimmy Cornell, for blue water cruising in every sense of the term. Beyond its seakeeping qualities, it successfully introduced the protective cap over the cockpit inherited from the Imoca 60s, the panoramic vision from inside, the interior helm station make this boat easy and safe to sail in extreme conditions
Enlarging the Exploration design to just over 16 metres (52’) quickly became the obvious thing for the Garcia teams. For sharing the most beautiful destinations with family or friends, Exploration 52 offers the space, comfort and all the equipment you may need.
If true luxury is space, then the flagship of the exploration range is the quintessential example. Its 19-metre (60’) hull allows you to achieve excellence in all aspects of long-distance cruising: safety, comfort, living space on board...
