The Vendée Globe is a single-handed (solo) non-stop yacht race around the world without assistance. The race was founded by Philippe Jeantot in 1989 and since 1992 has taken place every four years. It is named after the Département of Vendée, in France, where the race starts and ends. The Vendée Globe is considered an extreme quest of individual endurance and the ultimate test in ocean racing.
The Boats of this race are the Imoca, high performance carbon fiber racing yachts. The Vendeè Globe is also a very dangerous race, Gerry Roufs died during the Vendeè Globe in 1997
Interesting information! I knew that there were still some boat and/or yacht races going on, but I hadn’t taken a lot of time to really look into them. I’ll have to get online and check out some of the race footage from the Vendee Globe – hopefully there is some out there! Thanks for sharing!
Do you guys think the race will get it's go ahead this year?
The race will be start on 8th of November 2020 . In terms of racing, nothing prevents the race starting on 8th November, as long as the national authorities allow that to be the case.
Yes the race should go ahead, I think tourism and events will be allowed in most areas by august giving plenty of time to make sure this incredible race goes area.
