Hello Laros, I think that the answer changes by pearson to pearson.
There are some people that want to have the confort that they have at home on their boat, this is very difficult on monohulls, especially on monohulls up to 50/55ft. Also a monohull has not the living space that a catamaran has: for example on a Lagoon 40 you can have 4 cabins with a private bathroom, this can’t be on a 40 ft monohull such as an Beneteu Oceanis 41.1 (pictures below).
Another point is the living room, on a monohull you are sitted under the water level, on a catamaran you are on a platform in front of the sea (pictures below); and also cooking is easier on a catamaran: the boat doesn’t swerve so for example you haven‘t a tiltin cooker.
At this point we could say tha a catamaran is better than a monohull, but we have to remember that with strong wind and waves monohulls are a lot safer because they have the keel. I think that if you want to have an holiday for example in an arcipelago you have to choose the catamaran, if you want to sail moreI think that you should choose a multihull!
One of the advantages of a catamaran is the stability, that is a big plus for families with children and older people. At the other hand cats take double space to the docks and marines and you must keep on mind that maybe you won't find a place to dock and stay to anchorage. In that case you have to use the tenter to go ashore.
