Dokos : a small Greek island of the Saronic gulf adjacent to Hydra. The Dokos shipreck is the oldest underwater shipwreck discovery known to archeologists .The wreck has been dated to the second
Proto -Helladic period , 2700-2200 BC. The ship remains at the sea floor of a cargo site of hundreds of clay vases and other ceramic items are evidence of the shipwreck. The four-thousand-year-old ancient shipwreck was discovered by Peter Throckomorton on August 23, 1975, which was dated by archaeologist George Papathanasopoulos to 2200 BC, making the Dokos shipwreck 4,214 years old.
Inside the ship were found thousands of ceramic vessels and tools made of stone and two stone anchors. The 15.000 findings, were transferred for cleaning and preservation to the Museum of the island of Spetses. This shipwreck offers valuable information to the researchers about the period that it was found. The islet Dokos due to the infinite view it offers from its highest points, is an untouched place, because it has been declared an archaeological site. Dokos is mountainous and rocky, and its entire eastern, western and southern sides are without a port, while only to the north, the bay of Skindos is a good anchorage place for many sailing and diving boats.
