A catamaran (/ˌkætəməˈræn/) (informally, a "cat") is a multi-hulled watercraft featuring two parallel hulls of equal size. It is a geometry-stabilized craft, deriving its stability from its wide beam, rather than from a ballasted keel as with a monohull sailboat. Catamarans were invented by the Austronesian peoples which enabled their expansion to the islands of the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

Perfect for families, also for groups of friends with 4 separate cabins and a lot of outside area for relax, catamarans are available around the world as bare-boat, skippered or fully crewed. With sailing vacations you will have the most magnificent and authentic memories for a lifetime.
Sailing catamarans has been designed with remarkable living space and superb levels of comfort and performance so you can share all the pleasures of a premium cruising lifestyle.
Yes Char, I agree with you, in a nutshell the catamarans are perfect for a vacation at sea, but they aren’t able to cross the oceans.
A monohull sailing boat from 30/32 ft is able to do a long passage and contrast huge waves. A catamaran, for example a Bali or a Lagoon isn’t able to do this without a expert capitan because it is not stable, it weighs a lot and it has no keel. Yes, there are some exceptions, for example a Privilege or a Catana is probably better than a monohull to sail around the world. That's right . A catamaran is aimed at less experience people that they want luxury vacations and have fun. Catamarans are ''in fashion'' the last year and the people loved the inside and outside area and how beautiful are. If you like sailing as a sport more sailors choose a monohull.
I’ve thought about getting a catamaran for awhile. I’m in the market for my first boat or yacht, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about the “cat.” I didn’t realize that you could split out the cabin space like Chara mentioned; that’s great for people who like to have their alone time while traveling with friends and family. Awesome!
Although Catamarans are more stable and faster ( they are lighter ) and have shallower drafts allowing anchorage closer to the shore, more sailors prefer mono hull as they feel more confident on them.
Also Catamarns have two engines that make the maneuvering easier.
Awesome, I didn't know that catamarans were invented by the Austronesian people, that's good. It makes me think of the movie Moana and her desire to explore :D
Cat's have really improved over the years and more and more people I know are investing in new Cat's for some serious sailing. I love the new designs aiming at luxury and privacy for family and friends. They are more and more popular because of this and I am seeing more cat's at marina's than ever.
